Renovation and additions to an existing Cape Dutch home in Cape Town’s southern suburbs. The brief evolved out of a need to replace a rotting thatch roof structure that was unsuited to the cold damp location. This led us to consider the potential for totally transforming what was a dark, cramped first floor accommodation into a grand, light filled first floor that better suited the majestic proportions of the ground floor living spaces. The existing roof was removed entirely and the wall plate raised to create a new, spacious 500m2 first floor addition and the ground floor was completely reorganized and refurbished to create a majestic, brand new home.
